In the heart of Vienna, the Hofburg is one of the most significant former imperial residences in Europe. Inside are several exhibitions on the Habsburgs, including the Imperial Treasury and the Sissi Museum. A must-see destination for anyone visiting Vienna.

A bit of history

The Hofburg was the main winter residence of the Habsburg family, one of the most powerful dynasties in European history. For more than 600 years, this palace was the centre of political power of the Austrian Empire and later the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Hofburg Museums

One of the main reasons to visit the Hofburg is the Sissi Museum, which offers an in-depth look at the life of Sissi, once Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary. Displayed are personal items, dresses, jewellery, and incredible insights into the fascinating, but tragic story of her life.

You'll also find the Imperial Treasury, one of the most extraordinary collections of royal jewels and religious relics in Europe. In addition to these two exhibits, you will also find the Imperial Apartments, with beautifully furnished rooms, as well as a library and the famous Spanish Riding School.

Where the Hofburg is located

The complex is located in the city centre, close to other major attractions in the Austrian capital, such as the Museum of Art History and the Stephansdom, Vienna's cathedral.
